There's something powerful about keeping it simple. Our tallow balm starts with one of the oldest skincare secrets in the world: grass-fed beef tallow.

Here's how it comes together

Rendering the Tallow

  1. Start with high-quality fat, such as beef suet or lamb fat.

  2. Cut the fat into small pieces to facilitate melting.

  3. Place the fat in a heavy-bottomed pot or slow cooker.

  4. Heat the fat over low to medium heat, stirring occasionally.

  5. Allow the fat to melt completely, which may take several hours.

  6. Once melted, strain the liquid fat through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer to remove any solids.

  7. Let the rendered tallow cool and solidify in a clean container.

  8. Store the tallow in a cool, dark place or refrigerate for longer shelf life.

  • Slowly simmered and purified until it is clean, golden, and nutrient-rich.

  • This process strips away impurities while keeping the natural vitamins intact.

    Blending Tallow with Oils

Blending tallow with oils can enhance its properties, making it more versatile for various uses such as cooking, skincare, and candle making. Here’s a guide on how to effectively blend tallow with oils.

    Ingredients Needed

    • Tallow (rendered)

    • Oils (e.g., olive oil, coconut oil, or essential oils)

    • Double boiler or a heat-safe container

    • Mixing utensil (spoon or whisk)

Steps to Blend Tallow with Oils

    1. Prepare the Tallow: Ensure the tallow is fully rendered and in liquid form. If it has solidified, gently heat it until it becomes liquid.

    2. Measure the Oils: Decide on the ratio of tallow to oils based on your intended use. A common ratio is 1:1, but this can be adjusted according to preference.

    3. Heat the Oils: If using solid oils (like coconut oil), melt them in a double boiler until they are liquid.

    4. Combine Ingredients: Slowly pour the oils into the liquid tallow while stirring continuously to ensure thorough mixing.

    5. Cool and Store: Once blended, allow the mixture to cool slightly before transferring it into storage containers. Label the containers with the date and contents.

    Tips for Blending

    • Experiment with different oils to find the best combination for your needs.

    • Consider adding essential oils for fragrance or therapeutic benefits.

    • Store the blended tallow in a cool, dark place to prolong its shelf life.

    Uses of Blended Tallow

    • Cooking and baking

    • Moisturizers and balms for skincare

    • Candles and soap making

Blending tallow with oils can create a unique product tailored to your specific requirements, enhancing both functionality and benefits.

  • mixed with extra virgin olive oil for smoothness and hydration

  • infused with raw honey for its soothing, protective qualities

  • finished with essential oils for a light, refreshing scent.

NOTE TALLOW BALM IS FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY

Cooking and baking can be useful with regular beef tallow not with essential oils.

Steps to Pour and Set

  • Gather all necessary materials and tools.

  • Prepare the area for pouring.

  • Mix the material according to the instructions.

  • Carefully pour the mixture into the designated area.

  • Ensure even distribution and avoid air bubbles.

  • Allow the material to set for the recommended time.

  • Check for proper curing and finish as needed.

After you mix it the first time, place it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to an hour. When you take it out, mix it up with a whisk one more time, then put it into jars.

That's how we do it here.
